The other day I was thinking of artists who I would consider to be highly underrated. Not underrated in terms of critical acclaim, but underrated in terms of the opinion of the general population. After thinking of the issue a few artists came to mind. Today I will focus on Jeffery Lewis.
Jeffery Lewis is an anti-folk artist from New York. His style is quit unconventional and experimental featuring unconventional blending various genres, unusual sound sources and a unique vocal style which fits together to create a love it or leave it sound. Lewis's work will either strike a chord with you or leave you frustrated by its often bizarre nature.
Today I'd like to focus on my personal favourite album of his, 'Em Are I', released as 'Jeffrey Lewis and the Junkyard'. The album features a huge variety of wonderful songs from the simple acoustic track, 'Roll Bus Roll', which perfectly captures the mood of a sleepy, worn out bus trip in late hours of the night, to more experimental and unusual tracks such as 'Mini-Theme: Moocher From The Future'. Other notable tracks include 'Broken Broken Broken Heart', which details the remorse, musings and growth of someone who has sabotaged a relationship and 'Slogans', which's punk sound and interesting lyrics make for a quality listening experience.
I highly recommend you give Jeffrey Lewis a listen, particularly 'Em Are I', and potentially even support him by purchasing a few of his tracks.
Here's 'Broken Broken Broken Heart', check it out!
